Donating Zeke's hair

Eeeeeeeekkkkkk!

Donating 21 inches of hair to Wigs for Kids.

Zeke started growing his hair long when we found out we were expecting Amaya, 8 years ago. It felt like a symbolic act, when our lives were so chaotic and filled with little commitment then we had this tiny yet immense life force surprising us with her presence. She grew within me and it was as though Zeke letting is hair grow was his way of nurturing her entrance into the world as well. A symbolic act of commitment and change and growth.

It sounds a little funny to put words to what happened and why, because it wasn't a very conscious action and more of something that happened without much spoken word. It was the beginning of a change in both of our lives in the most profound way that neither of us could have imagined before.

We've grown our hair as a family since then and, this past weekend, Zeke was ready to let his go. Our lives are going through a morphism after so much growth and its showing its character in beautiful ways. We let Amaya be the one to cut his hair, as she was the one who brought about it's beginning and watching the full circle was incredible. 8 years and 21 inches. I know, it's just hair, but it's also so much more.

I can't say for certain if Amaya and I will be following suite quite yet but I'm so proud of him and think he looks mighty dapper in his new 'do.
